Rue’s approach can be used as a template of sorts, Herbert said, because he did take small steps to create his active lifestyle. “Sometimes it can be an hourly one,” he said. What Rue wants people to glean from LiveNow and his personal story is the decision to lead a healthy, active lifestyle is a daily one. “I’ve been overweight most of my life, worked out and tried all kinds of diets, but nothing’s worked like adopting a balanced approach and moderation,” he said. In September, he hopes to compete in his first half-ironman triathlon, a total of 70.3 miles. Rue’s choices have led to him set new goals and enter fitness races. The turning point for Rob was when he realized it was OK to make small changes. “Over time, he’s personally embraced an active lifestyle and the nutritional side of things. “It was really exciting to find out he wanted to do this,” Herbert said of Rue’s personal and community-focused goals. So, he worked at making incremental changes in what went into his mouth, he said. Rue said Herbert told him all the exercise in the world wouldn’t help if he didn’t start paying attention to nutrition. He worked out for three months, but wasn’t making much progress, he said. “Now, we can have a presence at event like the area cancer walk where maybe the presence of a funeral home would be inappropriate.”Ībout three years ago, Rue decided he needed to make some lifestyle changes, but didn’t start out doing everything right. “We created a completely different logo to make sure people weren’t turned off by a funeral home being involved in the project,” Rue said. “We see people every day whose lives may have been cut short by their decision to lead an inactive life, so we as owners decided to make a public statement in support of an active lifestyle,” he said.Ĭreating LiveNow also gives Littleton the opportunity to support other organizations and event it otherwise might not have been able to.
